Discipleship is key to the work of Saint Laurence, it's all about growth. We grow in a variety of ways:
Service 2
Every week at Saint Laurence from 6 - 7pm there is a church service aimed specifically at young people. These services include Prayer, worship and biblical input which we apply in relevant ways to the lives of young people. This is the physical manifestation of our mission statement from the front page, as we seek to create new and applicable forms of church with young people on a regualr basis.
ROSS
ROSS (rev's one stop shop) is our weekly small group for young people. We all meet together on a Tuesday night (term time only) and share a meal together, before breaking off into small groups for some bible centered teaching.
Saint Laurence BIG weekends
These are weekend residentials usually based at the Youlbury scout centre in Oxford, we typically run two each year, one around Easter and one in October. We take as many young people as we can away from Friday night to midday Sunday. During the weekend they experience a healthy mix of recreation, freetime and input. We tell young people about the message of Jesus Christ in a relevant and non threatening way, allowing them to experience worship, prayer and the bible as openly as we can. Recreation includes wide games in the extensive woodland, organised sports, craft and of course - bonfires. These weekends are massively popular and always oversubscribed!
Service 2 overnighters
The regular church attending young people have the opportunity for a shorter, overnight residential with the aim of giving them space to go deeper with God. Where the BIG residentials are aimed at evangelism and building relationships, these overnighters give the young people some headspace and time to consider the impact of God in their lives and some extended time for worship and prayer. Themes for overnighters have included worship, prayer, discipleship and rites of passage. These overnighters typically happen once or twice a year as neccessary often at smaller venues like Doui abbey.
Soul Survivor
Each summer Saint Laurence takes 30-40 young people away to somerset for the soul survivor festival. This is a great time of worship and friendship and never fails to leave us glowing.
MentoringWe offer each young person the choice to have some one to one time to discuss problems or questions they might have with life or church. Some use this opportunity as one offs, some use it regularly. The choice is theirs but the provision is available.
